Partners in mission

We work with other groups and organizations whose activities we believe makes a positive difference. One of the best ways to help a community is to empower an organization that already exists.

In the heart of Winnipeg, the St. Matthews-Maryland Community Ministry External link offers programs to meet basic needs, provide self-help education and options, and work for social/political change. With a vision of healthy community where everyone experiences God's promise of abundant life for all, they strive to achieve the goals of community building and empowerment.

One of the many projects run at the Community Ministry is the community gardens External link. The St. Matthews' neighbourhood is home to two community gardens, located on McGee Street. Because the community has few spaces and yards are small, the gardens are an important way of reclaiming vacant lots and transforming them into beautiful community spaces. In the gardens, neighbours of all ages can meet each other, work together, learn and share gardening skills where participants learn to preserve the garden produce, and also learn new food handling and business skills while marketing their products.
