Sunday worship (10:30 am) is the heart of who we are at Crescent Fort Rouge. Vibrant, spiritually nourishing, relevant and grounded in the historic roots of our denomination, we gather in a welcoming community. Here, deepest needs are fed, and community is nurtured and challenged. At Crescent Fort Rouge you will find engaging preaching, excellent music, sacrament and prayer, and a rich variety of other media such as drama, liturgical movement, and visual arts - expect to be moved! We invite you to come and experience this feast of spirituality.
Our dynamic ministry duo of Rev. barb janes and Rev. Irene Greenwood serve us
well whether it be giving sermons, providing leadership or offering spiritual
care.
Festival Worship recognizes all of those special days and seasons in the Christian calendar - Advent, Christmas, Lent & Easter are among those special times. At the regular Sunday time on those days and seasons, or in extra midweek sessions, we gather for worship, prayer, or just quiet reflection time. Ask about these special times and know that you, too, are welcomed to participate.

We try not to boast, but we are proud of our music program! Music Director Don Askholm gets the choir up to tempo at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday nights September through May. Sunday morning worship service finds our choir in the choir loft bringing their gift of music to the congregation. Don chooses a wide variety of sacred/spiritual genres for choral voices. There is also opportunity for solos, duets and smaller groupings. Instrumentalists add that extra "something" from time to time. Our choir welcomes all who like to sing. |

Children Engaging the Word is offered each Sunday morning for children in kindergarten and up. Children begin their Sunday morning experience in worship, including a Theme Conversation with the minister, then go to their session. Youth also begin in worship, then go with Laurie Howard our Youth Minister, for a time of discussion and activity. Watch for other intergenerational events! |

Perhaps you’ve encountered challenges to the United Church on www.emergingspirit.ca? Did you know our denomination is now on YouTube (www.youtube.ca/unitedchurchofcanada)? And, if you really want a challenge, check out www.emergingchurch.info for some thoughts on how to be the church in this strange post-modern world. Also worth a peek is www.explorefaith.org, and http://www.beliefnet.com. Labyrinths were originally created by 12th century Christian mystics when the Crusades made pilgrimages to the Holy Land too dangerous. Walking the labyrinth was a symbolic pilgrimage. The most famous labyrinth is in Chartres Cathedral near Paris, France; it was built in the late 13th century. For some, the labyrinth walk may be no more magical than a walk in the woods, and for others it may bring a profound feeling of peace and the sensing of the presence of God.
On the floor of the CFR gym there is marked out a labyrinth ready for you to walk. Ours follows the ancient design from Chartres Cathedral in France. There is no right way to walk a labyrinth. You only have to enter and follow the path. However, your walk can encompass a variety of attitudes. It may be joyous or sombre. It might be thoughtful or prayerful. You may use it as a walking meditation. There are some times through the year when we draw particular attention to the labyrinth walk. Other times it is available to you by arrangement. ![]() Life Passages are also times for worship. Our ministers are available to talk and plan with you in times of grief or joyous celebration. Funeral and Memorial Services that truly recognize the individual, celebrations of marriage that are personal and meaningful, baptisms and other markings of life passages can be arranged. At Crescent Fort Rouge United Church marriage is understood as the union of two persons. Please call the church office (9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday through Friday at 475-6011 or email Crescent Fort Rouge, for conversations or information about these special times. |

"We affirm that marriage is a gift of God through which Christians make a covenant with one another and with God. In marriage we offer one another the promise of lifelong companionship, rich expressions of human affections and sexuality, and nurture of children. We affirm that this unity is a creation of God and is greater than the two individuals. It creates holy ground on which the two, and all others must walk carefully and gently, yet forthrightly and with courage. It has boundaries, between them, and with others, that may not be trespassed. It takes precedence over other relationships. It calls for that caring which heals hurt and tends growth." Our church performs wedding ceremonies for opposite and same sex couples. We also perform covenanting services for those who choose a ceremony of blessing rather than a legal marriage. We are very proud of our Church Home and are pleased to offer our blessing as you are married here. Your Wedding Service will be an exciting and memorable occasion for you. We would be pleased to respond to any other questions or concerns. Please call the church office (Sharon Silcox - 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday through Friday at 475-6011), or email her at Crescent Fort Rouge United Church, so that general information can be provided and availability of the requested wedding date can be checked.

"I baptize you in the name of the Father and of the son and the Holy Spirit" Baptism symbolizes our unity with Jesus Christ, with all God's children, with our community of faith and with the Christian church in every time and place. Baptism will normally take place within the context of regular Sunday worship. As the congregation through which the child enters the Christian life, we consider our commitment to nurture his/her growth in faith to be a vital component of the sacrament. For further information on baptism see our baptism policy. |

Just next to the Wardlaw Avenue entrance to the church we have created a beautiful, contemplative memory garden. A patio area with benches is situated under a more than 125-year-old oak tree that predates the church building. All around the fenced perimeter is a garden. This garden is available for the scattering of the ashes of loved ones. Here, beside the children's playground, is a quiet place of beauty and reflection amidst the bustle of the city.
For further information on funerals please contact the church office: Sharon Silcox from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00p.m. Monday through Friday at 475-6011, or email her at Crescent Fort Rouge United Church.
